About Us

Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) Emergency Medicine residency s a 3-year county-based program, located in sunny Southern California. Our program resides within the County of San Bernardino (America’s largest county encompassing over 20,000 square miles), which is less than an hour drive away from the city of Los Angeles. ARMC is a San Bernardino County operated, university-affiliated teaching facility. It supports a level I designated trauma receiving center, a regional burn center serving multiple counties, a comprehensive stroke center, a behavioral health center on campus, and provides more than 40 outpatient specialty care services. Our Emergency Department is a regional referral center with an annual patient census of over 100,000, and over 3000 major traumas that meet criteria for alerts and activations. We have exciting news! ARMC Emergency Medicine Residency Program and ARMC Internal Medicine Residency Program (both ACGME accredited residency programs) have joined forces to create an EM/IM Combined training program that was recently approved by both the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) and the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). It will be a 5-year-long program that will allow residents who complete it to become eligible for both ABEM and ABIM specialty boards upon successful completion of this combined program.

For academic year 2024-2025, we plan to allow one incoming EM resident and one IM incoming intern to enter this combined program. This is in compliance with the regulations set forth by NRMP, ABEM, and ABIM. Please see below for more information regarding the proposed 5-year curriculum and the statement published by ABEM and ABIM regarding the EM/IM combined program.
